Parents as Teachers (PAT) provide monthly home visits to families of children prenatal through kindergarten entry to assist and support parents in teaching their children and preparing them for school. The program provides services in:

Literacy
Early intervention
Child abuse prevention
School readiness
Prenatal support
Parent education/support
Promotion of child development
    & school readiness

The use of health services.

Each child in the program receives a developmental screening. The four areas consist of language, gross & fine motor skills, and personal/social along with vision and hearing. Referrals are made for other needed services and/or further evaluation. Some parents have enrolled with concerns about their child’s development, to find they are completely within normal limits. A formal health & dental screening (conducted by a trained nurse from the Health Dept.) once a year is offered to each family. This has determined special vision & dental needs for some children. Those children are then referred for services.

The PAT program also offers families opportunities to take part in group trainings offered at the community college, local libraries, schools, other agencies and the Partnership office. PAT educators are available to speak to community groups about the benefits of the PAT program.
