Welcome Baby
Welcome Baby provides the beginning of Smart Start services by attempting
to reach all non-Medicaid parents giving birth at Annie Penn, Morehead
Memorial and surrounding hospitals. This addresses the Family Support
goals of increasing parents’ confidence and competence about their
ability to parent and participate in literacy related activities with
their children. This activity also works to address the early detection
of potential developmental delays.
Help, Inc.
Domestic Violence continues to be a complex dilemma faced daily throughout
the nation. Every year, more and more community leaders are recognizing
the far-reaching effects of this crime, and are uniting in a coordinated
effort for intervention and prevention.
Rockingham County leaders have put great emphasis on the complicated dynamics
of domestic violence and are especially concerned about the children who
are exposed to this violence.
The Rockingham County Partnership for Children contracts with HELP,
Inc. who provides a B-K certified teacher to organize play therapy
groups for children who have witnessed violence in their home and parenting
classes for individuals exposed to domestic violence.
Parents are offered information about developmental ages and stages to
address behavior, self-esteem, communication, discipline, and social and
emotional development with a strong emphasis on how violence in the home
affects each area. Consultation by a professional is offered to parents
in order to address each child's individual needs.

Transportation
Services
According to the 2001 Needs and Assessment Survey performed in Rockingham
County, transportation is a major concern for 29% (27,000) of the county
residents. By partnering with the Council on Aging to provide transportation
to and from necessary activities and appointments for children age birth
to five, the Partnership is working to address this concern.
